It seemed like someting was against me in Guatemala, within the first 24 hours three important things broke. I nearly took it personaly but it turned out that this was just the beginning of a wonderful trip. Guatemala!!
From Belize we took the boat to Livingston which is still quite tropical, the river is packed with jungle and millions of birds. Livingston is very touristy-not much to see at all. We stayed one night in a very cheap place. ( while toothbrushing I broke down the whole sink which was just fixed with a chair - big waterpipe broke and water spreaeded everywhere - I found it quite funny ) the next morning we left ( my small bag broke down ) to Rio Dulce.
The boat trip is nice, so many birds, Maya people fishing on there small wooden boats, massive Waterlilies and tons of huge trees rise along the river. ( My only big hairclip broke )
Rio Dulce
Located at Guatemala largest lake , Lago de Izabel, lies the small town of Rio Dulce. Its sorrounded by jungle-thats were we stayed. A very cute hostel isolated from everything.
Except the very busy one way street city - there is not much to see so we took a little collectivo bus (once again for 9 people - 25 fit into ) to the outer region. Past many hills full of Banana plantations, corn, cows and small Maya houses.
Our destination was a waterfall which is not just another waterfall - this one has hot water falling onto you. The water downstream is cold so a really good mix. I had my first shower after 11 days which was amazing. The hot water is coming from hot springs, located directly behind the waterfall. The sorrounding is spectacular, packed with massive roots, small caves and strange rock formations reminded us both on Cambodia.
In the sorrounding area you see tons of kids bathing in the streams, womans washing clothes next to them, cowboys chasing there cows on the fields and people coming back from cutting woods which they carry on there backs.
Mainly kids, but also 100 year old womans and mens - very impressive. We really are in
Guatemala!
