Yardie Creek and McGyver

The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and it was hot. We cruised along the ocean till we came to a small nice creek, Yardie Creek.

Just a few meters wide and quite shallow, it didn´t seem dangerous to us.

We searched for a nice point to cross and even as we talked about it, we got stucked in soft sand.

It took a few seconds as we realised that the tide was coming in, and that very fast. Fuck.

A few surfers were watching us, tried to help but it was already too late.

I was really desperate, this will be the end of the trip and the car will be flooded away – these where my thoughts.

Antony just bought it a couple of month ago for lots of money and now the saltwater is taken over it.

I was wondering how calm he was in this terrible situation. I felt so sorry.

While Antony searched somebody for help in the nearby camping place, we started to bring all the stuff from the car to a dry place. One car came but didn’t wanted to cross the saltwater so they tried to use a rope over 100m but it was useless. Only a tractor could help us. Unfortunately we were in the middle of nowhere!

Lots of people came to watch us, but nobody could help so we were already giving up the car. The tide is getting higher and higher, there is already water in the car and engine.

Suddenly we saw a big Landcruiser coming from the other side, loud like a truck and with huge wheels he made his way through the saltwater, directly to our car. Without asking him to help us, he pulled out a wire and connected it to our car. Everybody run over to help and we couldn’t believe that there was really somebody helping us.

The first wire was shredded after pulling to hard.. also our hope to get this car out of the fucking mud.

But that was not all, this man has got everything in his car for such tricky situations, and most of all, he didn’t give up.

His dad has got nearly the same car and they had the idea to connect the two landcruisers and pull out our car with an electric winch.

And THANK GOD, he slowly pulled us out. I had tears in my eyes and run over to the boys to hug them.

The guys towed us out of the water in a dry area where they tried to start the engine, but after nearly 40 min in saltwater it was already damaged

We also discovered a flat tire and changed it in the sand, but the car jack sunk in the sand, so they had to dig a quite deep hole to change it .. the tide was still getting higher but Ben was equipped for everything. This man is McGyver I can tell you

This is a fuckin neverending story, but good things come to those who wait.

With the help of the Ben´s family and the surfers we finally got out of the water and while we waited for the low tide they looked after us very kindly.

Yardie Creek is a very nice place, if u are not having an accident like ours.

On the other side of the creek we discovered warning signs. Well, they should put some on the other side too.

After packing our gear back in the car, they towed us in the next “city”, 80 km away. We thought about giving him all our money we have with us and buying him a new wire. They brought us to a garage to fix the car and went shopping with us too. We were speechless and as we mentioned the money they looked at us very seriously and said: “don’t even think about it…” what the … ???

Without them we still would be stucked in the creek, the trip would be over and Antony would have lost his car. This family was so kind to us.

We bought an expensive bottle of whisky and smuggled it in his car, but that was nothing in comparison to what they did for us. . . .
