Magnetic Island, Queensland

Originally we wanted to discover the whole island but we got stucked in the horseshoe bay because of a stranger named Robert. He lives here since 20 years on his houseboat, dressed just with a sarong and a really wired hat. U can´t miss him, he looks like a 90 year old Crocodile Dundee.
He told us some funny and interesting stories about animals and about the people on the island ( who are trying to kill him all the time… ) Sounds crazy, but he is crazy.

I just saw a big head out of the water, thinking it was a seal, I was totally wrong. It was a turtle, nearly 2 meters long and a hundred years old. Amazing. We catched a shovel nose ray but let it free again.

While the tide was low, we played golf in the bay and he teaches me a lot about some strange animals and shells. Very interesting!

He also treated anja´s coral wound with an old head microscope and some medicine. Did I mentioned his glass eye??

In the evening he invited us to stay for a small “bird show” and some beers. We couldn´t say now and stayed for a fantastic evening with hand feeded hawks, kookaburra´s and other little creatures who entertained us.

They all had names and he knows where they are living and who the nephews and grandsons are :)

For the night we stayed on top of the hill over Townsville, with an amzing view in the morning. Stupidly we lost one of our pans in the morning after having a fight with our mate, who´s having breakfast first. He trough it away, it was full of yummy oats. Mysteriously, we never found it again.. but I found a new idiot.
