Sunshine Coast, Dez 2006

Another reason to come to Australia was Steve Irwin for me. I watched him since years and my biggist wish was to work for him in the Australia Zoo. He´s just a hero for me, there are not many people who protect animals that good. This man has a big big heart.

Mine broke as I heard about his death a few weeks before I came to Australia. I just couldn´t belive what happened.

It was so unreal.

I still wanted to work for him and applied as a volunteer first cause its not that easy to get a vet nurse job in the zoo.

I flew to Brisbane and took the train to the little town Beerwah where the Australia Zoo has his home.

It’s a beautiful area, in the back u see the Glass House mountains from where u can see the sunshine coast.

Unfortunately I got sick over night again. I am fighting against a bad tonsillitis which turned into an abscess behind my tonsil but the weird doctors in Sydney just treated me with antibiotics, since 4 weeks already. So I stood in front of the zoo, couldn’t belive that I am finally here, without getting a word out of my mouth.

That’s quite stupid if u have an interview in a very special place!

So I tried to speak a few words but it hurts that much that I couldn’t enjoy it at all.

But they respected the long way I made and my experiences with animals and gave me the chance to come to work with them when I am healthy. So I got a day at the zoo for free.

And it was a special day, cause of Robert Irwin´s 3. Bithday – and the first one without his dad.

They organised a big party for him in the “Crocoseum” and all the guest celebrated with him. They seem happy this day – I was crying a lot. He was so cute. Everybody said, Steve was with us all the time. Thank u Steve, for being such a good men and having a wonderful family who will continue your job.

I didn´t know where to go to next, I needed a doctor that´s for sure. The team of the zoo helped me a lot, and finally I landed in a bus to Noosa. Thanks a lot guys.

Noosa, Sunshine Coast

After visiting the doctor and being retreated with antibiotics and a referral to an operation when I am back in Sydney, I finally could enjoy the sunshine coast.

Ok, without eating since 2 days ( couln´t swallow at all ) I just felt ok but the beautiful area gave me power to discover the Noosa National Park with a mountain bike.

It feels a little bit like the Baltic sea, a nice beach with a neat village. At the crossing from the Noosa river to the beach, you can do every sport , from kite surfing to 4 wheel driving , everything is possible. But with my power I could hardly crack a match so I stayed on my bike and watched the people doing crazy and fun sports.

National Park, Noosa

It´s just beautiful. the park is full of hidden beaches , surrounded by different eucalyptus trees with koalas in it. On one point u can see dolphins playing and on the other surfers carrying there boards for miles to surf on amazing beaches, like the Alexandria Bay.

I nearly forgot my pain, but my body remains me that I haven’t eaten for a while and the antibiotics are still not working. So I fought my way back to the hostel to recover for the night.

I met two german girls I liked ( that doesn´t happen often ) and we had a good time till I left Noosa.

I decided to go south and walked a few km on the beach till a met a nice couple with 3 dogs, and for sure I got stucked with them chatting, playing with the dogs and trying to catch worms with death fish and a forceps. But they where to fast and slippery.

After a while they offered me a lift to next bigger city so a ran over the really hot sand , even the dogs could feel the pain, while the couple was walking comfy and laughing about my weird movements. Sharing the backseat of the car with 3 dogs, I thanked them a lot for that lift and they offered me a place to stay if I want to.

I decided to move on from Coolum to Maroochydore, a popular surf beach with gold sand. I took the bike from the hostel (still couldn´t eat .. ) which was from 1768 and discovered the area.

On one small neat island I played with a dog at the water wondering where the owners are.

Well, it’s a dad and his daughter playing in the water and we chatted a while and they offered me to show me around maroochydore and Mooloolaba area with there truck. How nice is that!?

I said why not, and we bung the bikes and the dog at the loading area of the car and the little girl told me her storie´s about her home. It´s a beautiful area, the people must be proud of living here that they show foreigner around. I was very lucky today!

Brisbane, Sunshine Coast

One day left in Brisbane, so I walked around the city and the nice botanical garden before I went exhausted to bed. I am sure there is much more to see but my battery is very low and I need to recover. One thing I know about Brisbane, its also cold at night and loud in the city.
