Diggers Rest, King River Valley, East Kimberley’s

The Location for the shootings changed to another unique area in the Cockburn range. Diggers Rest. I changed the department too, this time I was working in Catering. “Kollage” is the kitchen of my boss Kerry and we made our way another few hours from Kununurra to the middle of nowhere, in the heart of the Cockburn Range.
Along the King River, this path leads through a dessert with lonely Boab Trees and some smaller streams to the Diggers Rest Station.

Station is a big word, but there is only one house and some smaller ones. So we stayed in tents like the other 200 people of the crew. That was awesome, I had my own tent full equipped with a mattress, sleeping bag and a light. It was all covered in red sand, it crawls through every tiny hole in your tent. Doesn’t matter, it was lovely. We just couldn’t enjoy it that much because of a 20 hour working day. We had to feed a 250 crew. Started at 3 in the morning and finished at 11 pm. For one week.

If we had the chance, we brought the afternoon tea to the set. Another 45 min to the shootings. They changed the locations a few times and every time they had to take all the animals and the crew with them, u can image how big this film will be..
The places were just incredible and we loved watching Baz during the shooting. He is such a creative genius.
He´s always smiling and saying hello, even to us. Great guy.

Our chefs and we were an absolutely great team, we had lots of fun and they cooked amazing things day for day.
In the evening Hugh Jackmann came by to bring us some beer and had a chat. A week before his little daughter was fascinated by my tattoo on the back and he told me that she has got one too. Since she saw mine, she thinks she has got one there too!
Very cute little girl, and Hugh is just a down to earth Australian man. Very kind and sexy!

I changed the department again to the Transport and drove back Van´s to Darwin. Every day nearly 1000 km of driving, but it never got bored. The area is amazing and I crossed bushfires, millions of termite hills, big streams, dead cows and huge Boabs.
Then they flew us back to Kununurra to grab the next car..
Great job.

Back in Faraway Downs

The last weeks I was back in constructions just with a few people of the old team. This time was amazing. Very hard work in 48° C but every drip of sweat was worth it. Thanks matt for bringing me back in here and Josh, I appreciated your work outside of the office, sweating like hell digging these fuckin holes.
Oh what a great time. The construction nurse Jen was always with us, in case something happens to us out here. We got really good friends and enjoyed this time so much. We were all blessed to be out here, in the middle of nowhere but right in between this special place.
The way back on the unsealed roud was tricky, some huge water dips were on the way and everybody tried to be the fastest trough them. I guess Josh was the best with nearly 160 Km/h!!

The last day was coming so fast. I couldn’t believe, I really had to leave this place. We so got used to this house and the hills, the roo´ s and the unbelievable heat. We did a BBQ , had a laugh and a beer.
Time to say goodbye.
I had tears in my eyes while leaving this place.

I will come back for sure. Thanks to all of the guys, you were such a great team.
Thanks Jen for being there for us and the time we had together.
And thanks Baz for bringing us all here.

This is a special place, I will never forget.
