We got lucky again! Discovered a nice car to hire and picked it up in Auckland ( not much to see here .. ) so we continued our way up further north in direction Bay of Islands.

Waipoua - Kauri Forest, Northern North

After a few hours we finally arrived in the woods of the Giants – the Kauri´s. The rain was not nice ( I guess my 20$ rain jacket was a bit overtaxed ;) ) but it gave the right feeling for the mystic rain forest with the massive Kauri´s in it. Some of them have got a diameter of 5m and 50 m high!!

The streets leads trough evergreen woods with smoking fog, huge ferns, T-Rex and Brontosaurus.

Bay of Islands, Norhern NZ

Kawakawa, North NZ

One of “Hundertwassers” work, a real toilet! I love his work and I never thought I would have a pee on one of his toilets. He was living here in Kawakawa till he died and got buried on his in 2000.


Auckland – Wellington, North Island

We passed places we already visited earlier and made our way down to Wellington. It´s a lovely ride with beautiful places in between. Unfortunately, we had to catch our Ferry to the southern Island so we didn’t see much of Wellington.
