Farewell Spit, Golden Bay

Cape Farewell, South Island, NZ

A perfect day around the Golden Bay and the Tasman Sea has got amazing places. Hidden caves and secret beaches, with funny playing seals in the sky blue water. You can watch them from the gap or you can go down to see them close. We discovered some caves with nasty stinking seals in them. Stayed for a while, watching them playing in the small waves.

Overnight at the Golden Bay. It got really cold during nights but the sleeping bag and a thick blanket kept us warm and comfy.

Farewell Spit, Golden Bay

This Spit is the most northern point of the southern Island and one of my favourite places ever. First, you walk along a shell beach – which is full of hundreds of black swans – then you leave the path to cross a mighty sand dune till you finally stand in a small dessert, surrounded by the ocean.

On the way back we found a huge Mola Mola on the shore, must have stranded here. Ever wanted to see one, never thought it will be a dead one. :(
